           Large lawn area at the residential block of Jewel City

           Second Place: Jewel City by Daniel Rebel Landscape Architect
           Jewel City is a mixed-use project that injects pedestrian energy
           back into a neglected part of the Johannesburg city centre –
           an achievement that is commendable. The series of pedestrian
           networks and urban landscaped spaces use the city grid and the
           street as two of many spatial devices to reconnect a previously
           closed off street network with the street network of the greater
           city. The robust public landscape with its lawns, water features,
           play areas and public amenities follows a language of hard
           surfaces offset with an impressive network of street trees and
           locally indigenous planting beds, creating a pleasant and lively
           public space.
