Overview of the new building section and landscaping
The archway forms a strong statement and focal point
Installation
Grant Gove, together with Carl Kruger, FSG’s landscaping director,
oversaw the team’s installation which was carried out in phases over
Early spring planting brings colour into the landscaped space a few months. They undertook the following work:
• establishing of a small on-site nursery;
• clearing and cutting back of areas to prepare for the new
landscaping;
• demolishing of a large, 2m deep swimming pool, and filling it with
G5 and soil, compacted in layers and then grassed to become a
usable outdoor space for gatherings;
• constructing a stone bridge, including walls and cladding;
• constructing of the ground level water feature designed by Gove.
Other features of the new area consist of a steel arch with climbing
Jasmine, a built-up planter around an existing tree, a wheelchair
ramp, a ‘floating’ bench resting on pillars and a braai area.
SALI Award
FSG received a silver award for the project in the 2022 SALI Awards of
Excellence, having entered the project in two categories – Landscape
Construction with Design by Others, and Specialised Construction.
The judges commented as follows: “A high standard of installation.
The gardens are heavily detailed and have been very well executed.
Hard landscaping was also beautifully executed. Good use of plants
and attention to detail – a great asset to a suburban area.”
