GREENROOTS
Greenroots in Weltevreden Park, Johannesburg, is a collection of small shops which
have been added to a well-known tea garden called Second Cup. The informal
eatery nestles amongst established trees and forest-like surroundings and the new
retail component blends in well with this and with the site’s natural assets.

The gardens are lush and jungle-like in appearance, but neatly maintained
andscape designer Grant Gove was briefed by the client
to improve the overall look and feel of the area, retain
Land maintain existing trees and design open spaces to
keep a relaxed, organic and flowing atmosphere around the
new infrastructure. The brief also called for a child-friendly and
unstructured space, with indigenous planting to bring birdlife
into the gardens. A further requirement from the client was
to create a feeling of tranquility by providing a quiet place for
people to sit and relax or stroll along the pathways through the
landscaped gardens.
Garden walk
A short walk away from Second Cup leads visitors across a small
bridge and along a walkway made of a combination of Rosa
Stone and La Cotta grey pavers, joined together seamlessly even
