Interactive water feature with a gently curving stream trickling between two
pebbled circles
Lawned spaces in between the buildings are used for gatherings and relaxation. The steel and timber archway, flanked by stone walls, present a pleasing
combination of hard landscaping materials.
though they are very different in shape and texture. The former is
natural looking, resembling irregular-shaped slastoe, whereas the
latter is formal and rectangular. Boulders have been introduced at
intervals, surrounded by the grass-like Carex ‘Sea Green’ sedge.
Further along, an interesting archway of Saligna wood and steel
establishes a strong focal point as the entrance to the new garden
area. Its impact is created by its unusual shape and a combination
of curved and straight lines. Once inside the space, an interactive,
ground level water feature consists of a circle of still water, then a
gently meandering stream leading to another circle. Both circles
are filled with smooth, dark pebbles which contrast attractively
with the lightly coloured gravel surrounding them.
Large boulders have been placed around the stream for seating,
and the water is shallow, encouraging children to step into it and
safely sail their boats.
Planting
This is mainly indigenous and continues the forest-like effect
surrounding the tea garden. Planting is green and lush with
minimal colour, except after walking through the oval archway.
The landscaping is intimate, running between the buildings of
the new section.
Different plant varieties and shades of green create a type of
jungle appearance, which is nevertheless neatly maintained. Walkways through the landscaping have been constructed of different types
