Water activities are non-motorised, low speed aquatic sports

Non-motorised water sports equipment ready for use
(residents only). A VIP ‘beach’ area is also
available on a paying basis for smaller,
private get-togethers. Silica sand with a
soft, grainy texture is used in the ‘beach’
areas to provide an authentic, sea-side
look and feel. The sand was supplied by
           Green’s Sand.

           Lagoon operations
Ian Nel is head of lagoon operations for
Balwin Properties and is responsible for
the day to day running of the system
as well as staff training and education
           pertaining to Crystal Lagoons’ stipulated
           methods.
He says the system is complex and The VIP area
specific processes are required to ensure
that the water is of a standard only
           requiring minimal chemical dosing. A
large pneumatic suction cart is controlled
remotely by one of the lagoon employees,
and the water is filtered and treated via a
chemical dosing system. Chlorine, similar to
that used for residential swimming pools, is
used, but on a smaller scale. Dosing takes
place at certain times of the day to optimise
usage and performance, and monitoring is
           undertaken consistently.
