PROJECT

          Although all the older plant material was removed, this Ivy creeper Terrace garden with rectangular ‘piano key’ stepping stones framing the lawn.
          was retained for its established look which complements the hotel’s
          architecture. It is one of the garden’s main features.

          The long, narrow pool on the upper level of the terrace.

          Altering for improvement
          In order to improve and modernise the garden, Landarch undertook the
          following:
          • Eight metre tall Plane trees that had broken their planter boxes were
           removed and chopped down in pieces. The root ball of each tree
           contained embedded stones, and were ‘blocks of wood’, according to
           Straw.
          •   older plant material was removed;
          • a mix of indigenous and exotic plant material was introduced, together
           with usable herbs and flowers to complement the terrace bar located on
           Level Four. New planting has introduced calming colours of white, blue
           and lilac – cool tones that enhance the warm brick of the architecture;
          • tree squares were inlaid into the patio and are planted with Lavender,
           Lemon Thyme and Lamb’s Ear;
          • two steel and timber pergolas were added – one on either side of
           swimming pool;
          • the fountains in the existing water feature were replaced and are now
           foam jets; A private space for a business meeting or confidential discussion
