• a new tiled backing was added to the water feature structure;
• the long, narrow swimming pool was re-lined;
• existing floor tiling was changed to stretcher bond, and the
orientation of it was also changed to give a more modern
appearance;
• the patio was framed and separated from the lawn area by means
of ‘piano key’ stepping stones which are rectilinear in shape;
• a logistical challenge for the small area meant that all material
was hoisted up at the same time, and only planted in position
once everything was on site;
• a further challenge was an operational one, and the new
installation had to take place without disturbing the normal, day-
to-day running of the hotel.
Plant material used
Harpephyllum caffrum, Trachelospermum jasminoides,
Leucanthemum superbum, Stachys byzantine, Felicia amelloides,
Rosa floribunda, Viburnum sinensis, Thymus vulgaris, Lavandula
angustifolia, L. stoechas, L. pedunculata, Carex radiata, Lamium
maculatum, Hebe speciosa, H. matthewsii, Hydrangea macrophyllum,
Vinca major ‘Variegata’, Helichrysum sp., Salvia rosmarinus,
Pelargonium X hortorum, Ophiopogon japonicus, Buxus sempervirens,
Plectranthus ciliates.
Successful new garden
The new garden provides an inviting space for guests to spend
time in, whether they are relaxing, swimming, playing croquet,
enjoying sundowners on the terrace or having a business meeting.
Maintenance is immaculate and attention to detail is evident
throughout.
