CAPTAIN`S DAY
raditionally Captain's Day was only a
golf day with a fancy-dress function
Tafterwards. Over the past three years,
the focus shifted towards bringing back
some of the Silver Lakes golf traditions.
The achievements of our golf members
are recognised at the Wednesday and
Saturday prizegiving evenings, and
feedback is given to the other members
about tournaments played and how our
Silver Lakes members did. All Silver Lakes
golfers, amateur and professional alike, are
included.
Upcoming tournaments are announced, as
well as which players will be representing
Silver Lakes at these tournaments. All
league games are also announced to keep
our members up to date on how Silver
Lakes players are faring. Even if players are
not present, they still receive recognition
at these events.
The recent Captain’s Day moved away
from a traditional golf day to also having
an awards dinner. According to Captain
Henry Roodt, this is a good platform to
give recognition to our golfers. Three
years ago, Captain’s Day changed to a
competition on the day with a prize giving
awards dinner in the evening. Certificates
are handed out at the awards dinner to
