Rise Against Hunger
This annual meal packing event,
powered by the Attacq Foundation,
took place at all of Attacq’s retail
assets across South Africa on 18 July
– Mandela Day, with the largest drive
hosted at Waterfall City Park.
For the past three years, The Attacq
Foundation has been tackling
hunger to support childhood
education and skills development.
Recognising the critical link between
nutrition and learning, the Attacq
Foundation, together with partners
Sage Foundation, Pfizer, EOH, Adams
& Adams, Mergon Foundation and
Balwin Foundation, have again joined
hands with Rise Against Hunger this
year, to fund, pack and distribute
nutritious meals to Early Childhood
Development (ECD) centres across
three provinces.
Since 2021, Attacq’s Rise Against
Hunger campaign has rallied the
united strength of 2,253 volunteers,
who packed over half a million meals,
impacting 2,227 children.
For 2024, the team’s goal was to
pack 400,000 meals. Thanks to all the
amazing volunteers who pitched in
on the day, the target reached was
425,736 meals, of which 299,808
were packed right here in Waterfall
City with the help of 593 fantastic
volunteers!
The total meals packed on the day will
help feed 1,851 children for five days a
week for a year.
It was an ambitious task that could
not have been achieved without
collaboration and partner support.
The Foundation invites more
assistance to achieve its ongoing goals
in the years to come, encouraging
participation in meal-packing events
as a meaningful way to honour Nelson
Mandela’s legacy and support local
communities.
