                                                                  Both field tests confirmed that reduced operating temperatures
                                                               and higher ampacity can be achieved by applying SSC to standard
                                                               overhead conductors. This increases the cost of the conductor but
                                                               payback periods of 1 to 2 years through energy savings have been
                                                               estimated. 2
