2019/2020 CLUB KNOCKOUTS
In the April edition, it was inadvertently
announced that Vikash Ramnundhan had
won the Individual knockout. In fact, the nal
still has to be played between Clifton Stanley
and Vikash. Apologies to all concerned for
the mistake. The Top 8 nal still has to take
place between Gert Swart and Clifton Stanley.
GOLF RULE OF THE MONTH –
ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITION
Rule 16 covers when and how you may take
free relief by playing from a di erent place,
such as when you have interference by an
abnormal course condition or a dangerous
animal condition.
These conditions are not treated as part of
your challenge of playing the course, and you
are generally allowed free relief, except in a
penalty area or out of bounds.
You normally take relief by dropping a ball
in a relief area based on the nearest point of
complete relief.
This rule also covers free relief when your
ball is embedded in its own pitch mark in the
general area.
Relief is allowed when (16.1):
Your ball touches or is in or on an abnormal
course condition.
An abnormal course condition physically
interferes with your area of intended stance
or area of intended swing.
Your ball is on the putting green, or when
an abnormal course condition on or o the
putting green intervenes in your line of play.
At Blue Valley, an abnormal course condition
would include, but is not limited to, golf cart
paths, casual water, ooded areas in the
general playing area, animal burrowings or
guinea fowl scratchings, excluding penalty
areas and out of bounds. Some of these
conditions may also be covered in other
parts of the Rules of Golf ie Movable and
Immovable Obstructions.
