down Broadbury Circle along the river at Land’s
End Street to Berryhead Lane - with a visit to
the quarry along the way - before climbing
the killer hill, aka Kelly Bray Lane. Peter Morey
and his trusty steel steed swept past the ranks
along the route, encouraging the hot and dusty
walkers and picking up those walkers struggling
to ascend Kelly Bray Lane, to ferry them safely
to the finish line. I’m sure I speak on their behalf
when I say: Thank you, Peter! He commented
that it was encouraging to see whole families
taking part and that the spirit of friendliness and
goodwill on the morning was heartening. He also
mentioned that one lady in particular deserved
a badge, as she walked the entire route with a
huge rucksack and baby on her back.
Asked whether there will be more events
like this in the future, the answer from the
organisers is affirmative. They are looking
forward to organising many more community
events of all types in future. Lauren particularly
would like to include events that support
charities and that get our community active.
