WINE DINNER

Wednesday 12 July

e hosted our first mid-week Wine Dinner in a while this
month, and what a tasting it was! Justin Lee was back
to present Backsberg wines. As always, he ensured
Wthat the wine tasting was informative, telling us about
the history of the farm; about which South African wines are thriving
on the international stage; and, of course, about the wines we were
about to sample.
There has been a renaissance in South African wines from the 1970s
onwards, with the techniques used and quality of South African
wines having improved markedly over the years. Did you know that
Backsberg was the second wine farm to get an independent export
licence when this became possible for South African wine producers?

Given the rich history of the farm, it is not surprising that Backsberg
is committed to sustainable wine production and the continued
promotion of South African wines.

Tyson Properties is our sponsor at the wine events and this month’s
Tyson hamper, with two bottles of Backsberg wines, was won by
Fourways Gardens resident Madel Dalla Pria. Congratulations!

The superb Backsberg wines we sampled and the excellent
presentation by Justin left us wanting to taste more of these wines
and know more about the label.

Our next wine tasting will be Hartenberg. We’ll meet on Saturday, 5
August at 6pm. Details will be in the newsletter and on the posters.
